What Does ADA Require?
For accessible installations, the top of the toilet seat generally must be 17–19 inches above the finished floor. Other elements, such as clearances, grab bars, and flush controls, must also meet applicable requirements.
Are Open-Front Seats Required?
Not necessarily. While open-front seats are common in commercial and institutional restrooms because they can simplify cleaning and maintenance, an open-front seat alone does not make a restroom ADA compliant.
